No. The thought that he might be very good and them being forced into forking out for him on a permanent basis probably had them running scared.

They have no intention of ever spending that kind of money on a player. That much we know for absolutely sure now.

Percy, Hernandez is a good signing, jury still out on the rest though Anoutovic imho is this windows Ayew, Snodgrass where they have overpaid for a smaller clubs best player.
I think because they made our signings early and were praised by the media, pundits and our fans, they parted themselves on the back and thought job done.
There has certainly been a lot of contrary noises coming out of the club about signings since - ”one in one out" which didn't happen after two more departed, and the suggestion we / Slav was happy with squad. Then the noises from Slav that we had been after a top DM for two years but pulling out of two deals to sign one whilst blaming the selling club.
All part of the usual smoke & mirrors from them.

Couldn't Sullivan just agree with the Gomes clause to get the deal done then only play him for 59 per cent of games? Send him back if no good or negotiate a lower fee to buy him.....

It's just laughable how everyone was going crazy over how brilliant our transfer window had been. The fans, the press, other teams fans. On paper, yes they all looked very good. In reality, all very underwhelming. None in any particular form.

All were at clubs happy to let them go, we didn't prize anyone away from the grasps of their clubs with audacious bids. For the money, Hernandez may turn out to be a bargain but it's not like we were locked in a battle with half a dozen other clubs for his signature.

3 games in and one area of the park is identified as needed strengthening desperately and yet we choose to let a very good player slip through our hands who could have filled that gap for the sake of a few million quid.

From our strikers we now have 1 new signing who will only score goals if the service is decent. 1 striker who spends more time injured than playing and 1 striker who is desperately trying to manufacture his move away off his own back

It's an absolute shambles

Maybe he / they need some reflection (which will never happen) and admit to themselves that they are not very good at this transfer malarkey and appoint someone who is, or they just like a lot for their agenda.

For a tireless experienced negotiator the lying midget cunt seems to have things catch him out last minute a lot doesn't he?

Amazing how all these clubs keep trying to change the terms of deals at the last minute, only one common denominator in these deals.........

Don't go to bed

Entirely possible that Barca will make one last try for Coutinho who scored for Brazil last night .... and if that gets another no look around for an alternative.
Who is conveniently at home and not off with Argentina.

Honestly I'm not fussed if we spend vast sums of money or not since that's never really been part of the whole west ham ethos (if such a thing exists). What fucks me off is that the owners can't seem to identify the right players for the right system and and go and get them. Fucking hell even the Stokes and West Broms of the world seem to manage that.

I fully expect us to struggle big time and make the usual fucking mistake of overpaying in January for a player nobody else wants, ad fucking nauseam.

I hope Barca bid $60m for Lanzini, would just LOVE to see how far our owners would go to completely destroy our midfield attacking threat.

Get a load of this: Still don't understand why we wouldn't do a loan, not unlike the Zaza deal last year.....

Exclusive by Hugh Southon

West Ham tonight missed out “at the death” on a deal that would have brought Barcelona’s Andre Gomes to the London Stadium.
The Spanish giants changed an agreed deal at the last moment to include a clause which was entirely from left field with next to no negotiating time left.

The Hammers believed they had a deal in the bag for the 24 year old after the deal for William Carvahlo failed to happen.

That left the Irons chasing Gomes but with the window closure just three hours away – and a loan fee agreed – Barca introduced a clause which has not been previously discussed or even mentioned in passing.

ClaretandHugh was told a few minutes ago: “It’s unlikely any new signings will be coming in tonight now. We had a Gomes deal in place but Barca changed it at the death.

“They demanded at the last moment that it should include a clause which said: “should the player make 60 per cent of starts then West Ham United must sign him permanently for £40 million.”

There was no way we could commit to such a clause at such a late stage.”

Cue panic buying several shit players in January when we are bottom of the table

Did the Davids not watch the Newcastle game, getting thrashed by an average newly promoted side?

It's the part where Slav thinks we're sound defensively. Utter delusion!
